Heisman - Week 7

At the midway point of the season, it’s becoming clear who the top Heisman candidates are, and most of them are Big 12 quarterbacks. Daryl Clark is probably the first guy off this list; he’s just not putting up the numbers others on here are.

1) Colt McCoy (previously #4) – QB Texas (Season: 1,557 yds, 17 TD, 3 INT, 348 rush yds, 4 rush TD)
277 yds and a TD against #1 Oklahoma. McCoy benefits from those previously above him (Daniel and Bradford) losing. Also, he has a sweet name for a Texas quarterback.
Next: vs. Missouri

2) Sam Bradford (2) – QB Oklahoma (Season: 2,052 YDS, 23 TD, 5 INT, 1 rush TD)
387 yds and 5 TD against Texas. Not to any fault of his own, Bradford now sits behind McCoy because his team lost to McCoy’s. The good news for Bradford is that there’s plenty of time to make up ground in the national championship and Heisman picture.
Next: vs. Kansas

3) Graham Harrell (3) – QB Texas Tech (Season: 2,311 yds, 20 TD, 3 INT, 3 rush TD)
284 yds, 2 TD, 1 rush vs. Nebraska. I’ve been hesitant to move Harrell up this list because I still consider Texas Tech a mid-major for some reason. But he deserves to be in the top three for sure at this point.
Next: at Texas A&M

4) Chase Daniel (1) – QB Missouri (Season: 2,055 YDS, 16 TD, 4 INT, 120 rush yds)
390 yds and a TD in Missouri’s loss to Oklahoma St. He never should have switched numbers. Now Missouri is probably going to lose two games in a row with a matchup this week at #1 Texas. Is it weird that my top four are all Big 12 quarterbacks? I thought it was a running back conference.
Next: at Texas

5) Javon Ringer (5) – RB Michigan St (Season: 1,112 yds, 14 TD, 76 rec yds)
124 yds and 2 TD against Northwestern. This week will be a huge test for Ringer to see if he can take on Ohio St.’s very good defense.
Next: vs. Ohio St.

Honorable Mention:

Tim Tebow (HM) – QB Florida (Season: 1,235 yds, 10 TD, 179 rush yds, 3 TD)

Michael Crabtree (HM) – WR Texas Tech (Season: 43 receptions, 653 yds, 10 TD)

Jeremy Maclin (HM) – WR Missouri (Season: 39 receptions, 600 yds, 5 rec TD, 1 rush TD, 1 return TD)

Mark Sanchez (HM) – QB USC (Season: 1,248 YDS, 14 TD, 6 INT)

Max Hall (HM) – QB BYU (Season: 1,845, 20 TD, 4 INT, 1 rush TD)
