Random Musings

Why the hell is it so hard for women to find a pair of jeans? I hear and read how it is impossible to get a pair that "fits" them. Of course by "fit" they mean what makes me look thinner without actually cutting off the flow of blood to their lower body. Yes, I understand that gravity has horrible consequences and repercussions on the female anatomy however I feel as though Levi's, Gap, and whoever have taken this into account and made different sized jeans.

Shouldn't speeding tickets be based on a system or ratio of miles driven vs. speeding tickets allowed? Should the person who drives 20,000 miles a year really be held to the same standard as some who drives 10,000 or 5,000?

On the same note, shouldn't speed limits be variable. I'm not saying they should be constantly changing but having one limit for daytime and for nightime driving doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

Tori Spelling has to be the ugliest person to ever be famous.

For a country that is lazy, has little economic power, and is spineless (see 7/11 bombings) Spain sure is dominating international sports. Soccer? check. Tennis? check. Cycling? check. If Sergio can finally put it together at the PGA and Spain's Olympic basketball team wins gold...will they finally be known for something other than creating a terrible navy fleet?

PSA: If you are in line at a fountain machine, please no more than two extra hits to fill up the cup. When you are done with that please move to the side rather than blocking the machine while you put on your top.

I have to order jeans (and sometimes dress slacks) online because 2 stores carry my size, everyone knows the American size labels are outdated and inaccurate.

Alright, with regards to the double standard for 20k and 5k mile drivers, it would be impossible to track without a government monitored gps device in your vehicle. Sounds a bit Orwellian, I'll pass and stick to the speed limit, thanks.

I see your variable speed limit and add a construction clause. Some states affix flashing lights to their road construction signs that flash when construction is actually underway and thus, the "construction zone" speed limits are in effect. Illinois needs to jump on this, I'm tired of driving 45 on the Kennedy at 2am or on Sunday afternoons. Also, thumbs down to speed and red light cameras. What is next? Closed Circuit Television?

In addition to Spelling, I'd say Barbara Streisand and Sarah Jessica Parker, Steve Buscemi and Ron Howard's brother are honorable nominees.

Fig,

No red light cameras, are you serious? Yeah its real invasive that a camera takes a picture of you as you break the law.

Secondly Sarah Jessica is overrated, not ugly. You do realize she is 43 with two kids right?

unnecessary to put greg on the poll.

When a cop pulls you over for speeding, you are usually driving in gross excess of the speed limit, say at least 10 over. It is obvious that you are breaking the law and posing a threat to fellow motorists. But what if you roll a stop sign at 2 mph? Is that really a punishable offense? I don't know anyone who comes to an absolute halt at a stop sign, let alone stop completely before the white line. At least in the first example it is possible to reason with the Cop. Last time I checked Red Light Cameras don't have a personality or "appeal" program. I think there are bigger things for our government to worry about than screwing motorists and earning a few extra bucks.

And fine, I'll take back Sarah Jessica Parker and replace her with Fergie. Horseface. Yuck.

Fig apparently you don't understand how red light cameras work. As soon as the light goes red the camera takes two photos. If your car is in the intersection in the first pick then you are fine. If it isn't and the subsequent photo shows you plowing through than you get a ticket. I have also never heard of stop sign cameras, I don't think those exist.

I typed it too fast, I meant red light in the context of making a right on red... which is when the light is treated as a stop sign.

Fig it doesn't take a picture when you make a right on a red. I have driven by a red light camera at least 20 times this summer and for one they warn you there is a camera and secondly it only takes a picture when the light goes from yellow to red.

Route 64 and Route 59, it exists, check it out.

OH, BETCHED TOM!

I assumed Fig was talking about red camera lights in the Chicagoland area.

If that's true then a red light that takes a picture of you when you turn on red is weak.

Since Madeline astutely noted that Tommy isn't qualified to comment on jeans, I'll take over... While I agree with you that some people spend WAY too much time obsessing over the intricacies of the so-called perfect fit, it is undeniable that it is more difficult for a curvy woman to get into a form fitting garment than a guy to wear a simple straight leg. Also, guys sizes are way more uniform across different clothing lines than women's. Thus-- it is more difficult for girls....however, I don't feel there is much room to complain being that there are many more brands from which to choose.
